Torrential Downpour Causes Localized Flooding Across Central Saigon Tourist Streets

October 6, 2026 at 06:37 AM 3 min read· Source: Saigon Urban Drainage Board
Rapid rain accumulation overwhelmed street drains in Bui Vien and Ben Thanh quarters. Expats advised to avoid waterlogged lowlands during high tide hours.

A sudden torrential cloudburst combined with high river tides created localized standing water up to 40 cm deep along parts of District 1 and District 4. Foreign visitors and locals were seen navigating flooded footpaths on foot and pushing stalled scooters.

How to Avoid Waterlogged Scooter Damage: - Never accelerate aggressively into deep standing water where the exhaust pipe is submerged, as water intake will hydrolock the combustion chamber. - If your engine cuts out in a flooded dip, do not attempt to restart it immediately. Push the vehicle to dry pavement, drain the air filter box, and seek a local roadside mechanic (Sửa xe).
